Train Alongside Experienced IBCLCs — And Build the Hours You Need to Sit for the Boards
If you are on your journey to becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Lactation Loop's mentorship program offers something truly rare — the opportunity to train alongside a multi-state team of experienced IBCLCs across a wide range of clinical settings, patient populations, and breastfeeding challenges.
Led by Jennifer Chivas RN BSN IBCLC, founder of Lactation Loop and one of the most experienced lactation practitioners in the country, our mentorship program is designed to give aspiring IBCLCs the supervised clinical hours, real-world experience, and professional confidence they need to sit for the IBCLE board exam and thrive in practice.
What the Mentorship Includes
90-Minute One-on-One Coaching Sessions Work directly alongside Jennifer and the Lactation Loop IBCLC team during in-home, in-office, and virtual consultations. You will observe, participate, and grow — with experienced guidance every step of the way.
Multi-IBCLC Training Experience You won't be limited to one mentor's experience. Lactation Loop's team serves families across Michigan, Florida, Texas, New York, North Carolina, and Indiana — giving you exposure to a wide variety of clinical scenarios, patient demographics, and breastfeeding challenges that solo mentorship programs simply cannot offer.
Supervised Clinical Hours We will be present with you throughout your mentorship — in home visits, in office consultations, and virtual appointments — until you have accumulated the hours you need to sit for the boards.
Ongoing Support and Professional Development Our mentorship is not just about collecting hours. It is about becoming a confident, competent, compassionate IBCLC. We invest in our students because we believe in growing the next generation of lactation care providers.
Who We Are Looking For?
Lactation Loop seeks highly qualified candidates who bring real-world experience with mothers and babies. Our ideal mentorship student is someone who has worked in a maternal or newborn care capacity — whether as a nurse, doula, midwife, childbirth educator, peer counselor, or in another maternal health role.
We are looking for candidates who are:
Experienced with mothers and babies in some professional or clinical capacity — Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and deeply committed to the field of lactation — Familiar with the IBCLE certification process and eligibility requirements — Actively working toward Pathway 1 or Pathway 3 certification

Interview & Application Cycles
Lactation Loop conducts mentorship interviews twice per year:
Spring Interviews — for a July program start Fall Interviews — for a January program start
Spaces are limited. We accept a small number of students per cohort to ensure every mentee receives the individualized attention and clinical exposure they deserve.

About Your Lead Mentor — Jennifer Chivas RN BSN IBCLC
Jennifer Chivas is the founder of Lactation Loop and one of the most experienced board-certified lactation consultants in the country. With over 26 years of experience working with mothers and babies, Jennifer brings a holistic, evidence-based approach to every consultation — and to every mentorship relationship.
Jennifer is a Registered Nurse, BSN prepared, and Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Her areas of clinical expertise include low milk supply, tethered oral tissues (TOTS), exclusive pumping, NICU support, and complex breastfeeding cases. She has helped hundreds of families produce milk they never thought possible — and trained a growing team of IBCLCs who carry that same standard of care into their own practices.
Training with Jennifer means training with the best. Lactation Loop IBCLCs are known for their clinical rigor, compassionate care, and commitment to evidence-based practice. Our mentees go on to become exactly the kind of IBCLCs the field needs more of.
