If you have Aetna or Meritain Health insurance and you're looking for breastfeeding support, you may be wondering whether your visits with a lactation consultant are covered. The good news is — they likely are!

Does Aetna Cover Lactation Consultants?

Under the Affordable Care Act, most commercial insurance plans including Aetna are required to cover lactation support services at no cost to you. This includes visits with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

What about Meritain Health?

Meritain Health is an Aetna company, and Lactation Loop accepts Meritain Health as well. If your insurance card says Meritain Health, you're in the right place — your coverage works the same way.

Does Lactation Loop Accept Aetna and Meritain Health Insurance?

Yes! Lactation Loop is proud to accept both Aetna and Meritain Health insurance for lactation consultations. We bill directly — you don't have to do anything except upload your insurance card when you create your chart at booking. No pre-authorization needed in most cases.

What Services Are Covered?

Your lactation consultation may include:

  • 90-minute in-home or in-office visits with a board-certified IBCLC

  • Virtual lactation consultations
