Jennifer Chivas, RN, BSN, IBCLC "The Booby Boss"

Jen grew up in Michigan and began her nursing career in 1998, a year after graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy. For nearly 15 years, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse in Metro Detroit — at the bedside with mothers and babies through some of the most pivotal moments of their lives — before earning her IBCLC certification.

In 2012, she joined an outpatient breastfeeding medicine clinic, where she built the clinical foundation that still shapes her work today. It was there, working through complex cases — low milk supply, exclusive pumping, tongue tie, and everything in between — that Jen developed the evidence-based, hands-on approach families have come to rely on.

In 2016, she bought a home in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. She made the move permanent in 2017 and launched Lactation Loop in 2018 as a private breastfeeding support practice. Today, Jen splits her time between Florida and Michigan, staying close to both the practice's roots and the families it now serves nationwide. In Florida, she also worked part-time at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, supporting some of the region's most complex breastfeeding and NICU cases.

What began as one nurse seeing one family at a time has grown into something much bigger: Lactation Loop is now an IBCLC collective — a national team of over 20 board-certified IBCLCs offering in-home, in-office, and virtual lactation support to families in all 50 states. And it was built almost entirely through mentorship. Jen personally guides lactation professionals through the IBCLC certification pathway, and many of the IBCLCs on this page earned their credential through the Lactation Loop mentorship program.

Today, Jen still sees families herself — virtually, in-home, and in-office — using the same evidence-based care that built this practice from the ground up, to help mothers meet their breastfeeding goals wherever they are.
