A virtual lactation consultation is a secure video appointment with one of Lactation Loop's 18 board-certified IBCLCs — the highest credential available in lactation care. You get the same expert support as an in-person visit, without leaving your home.

Is Virtual Really as Effective as In-Person?
Yes — and for many concerns, it's just as good or better. Your IBCLC can observe a live feeding in real time, see your actual nursing setup (your chair, your pillow, your pump), and give you advice that fits your real life — not a generic clinic setting. The only thing a virtual visit cannot do is a physical weighted feeding. For weight checks, we recommend an in-home visit.
Is It Covered by Insurance?
Most commercial insurance plans are required to cover lactation services under the Affordable Care Act — including virtual visits. Because our insurance contracts are national, your coverage travels with you regardless of which state you're in. Lactation Loop accepts Aetna, Cigna PPO, UnitedHealthcare (UHC), UMR PPO, Meritain, Anthem, BCBS TX, Tricare Select, Wildflower, Lactation Network, and Curative. Many families pay $0 out of pocket. Is virtual lactation support as helpful as in-person consultations?
For most concerns — including latch issues, pain, positioning, and low or oversupply — virtual visits are just as effective as in-person ones. An IBCLC can observe a full feeding over video, ask detailed questions, and guide adjustments in real time. In-home or in-office visits are best for hands-on anatomical assessments like tongue tie, but the vast majority of breastfeeding challenges are resolved successfully through virtual care.
Can a virtual lactation consultant help with latch problems?
Yes. Latch problems are one of the most common reasons families book a virtual visit. Your IBCLC will watch you position and latch your baby on camera, then walk you through real-time adjustments to reduce pain and improve milk transfer.
