Newborn Sleep Made Simple: A Breastfeeding-Friendly Prenatal Sleep Class
Pregnancy prep classes cover birth, feeding, even car seats, but almost nobody tells you what newborn sleep is actually like, or how to support it while breastfeeding. That’s the gap Lactation Loop is excited to help close, in partnership with Michelle Caris of Sleep Well with Michelle.
About the Class
Newborn Sleep Made Simple is built for expecting parents who want to walk into the fourth trimester informed and confident, with a sleep approach that works with breastfeeding, not against it. This is a judgment-free, breastfeeding-friendly class designed to leave you feeling prepared, not overwhelmed.
You’ll leave knowing:
What newborn and infant sleep actually looks like (and why it’s nothing like the movies)
How to soothe your baby, with hands-on practice
What your baby’s crying is actually communicating, and how to respond with confidence
Breastfeeding-friendly sleep foundations you can start from day one
What’s actually normal for newborn sleep, so you’re not googling every twitch and grunt at 3am

Meet Michelle Caris
Michelle Caris is an IPSP-certified pediatric sleep consultant who helps exhausted parents of stubborn sleepers get real, sustainable sleep, without cry-it-out methods or impacting their breastfeeding journey. Before sleep consulting, Michelle worked as an engineer, and that background shapes her approach: instead of handing out generic “sleep rules,” she diagnoses the root cause of why a baby isn’t sleeping and builds a personalized plan around it.
For breastfeeding parents especially, that distinction matters. Night wakings aren’t always a “sleep problem” to eliminate. They’re information. Michelle helps parents read that information instead of fighting it.
Michelle’s approach is gentle, evidence-based, and breastfeeding-friendly. She’s based in southeast Michigan and works virtually with families across the U.S.
Why We’re Partnering with Michelle
Throughout my consulting experience, I’ve found that many parents sacrifice breastfeeding in the hope that it will help their baby sleep. Research shows that infant sleep is more complex than that. Breastfeeding can be one piece of the puzzle, but I often see otherwise.
I’m happy to counsel parents on routine sleep guidelines while nursing. But I then find out they’ve purchased a sleep package or hired a sleep consultant on top of that, as if they just needed a second opinion. Instead of sending parents out to find someone on their own, I found someone for them.
Michelle’s approach lines up with how our IBCLCs already think about night wakings: not as a problem to eliminate, but as real information about what your baby needs. That’s why we’re excited to bring this class to our families.
